PAWS' Facts

  • Through March 9, 2009, PAWS has spayed/neutered 253 animals.
  • PAWS spayed/neutered 1713 animals in 2008. Of that number, 1335 were cats, both domestic and feral, and 378 were dogs. That is an average of 143 animals per month. In 2007 PAWS fixed 1440 dogs and cats.Vet expenses exceeded $50,000 for the year.
  • PAWS spayed/neutered 938 dogs and cats in 2006 and 250 in 2005.
  • The surgeries and rabies shots are not free to PAWS. Fees depend on the sex of the animal, if females are in heat or pregnant, and if a dog, the weight of the animal.
  • PAWS depends on donations from pet owners who use the services, donations from the community at large, grant money, and fund raising (PAWS for Love Quilt this year) activities.
  •  Vet bills for 2008 totaled $63,000.  The majority of funds to pay these bills came from donations from pet owners and supporters of PAWS. Remember!  PAWS is a spay/neuter assistance program for those who might otherwise not be able to afford to have their pet fixed.  Local vets are paid for their services.

How PAWS Raises Funds

  • No overhead! PAWS is not a shelter and has no office building expense or salaries.  Volunteers donate time, energy, and hard work.  PAWS depends on donations and grants.
  • Through periodic garage sales and bake sales, and the sale of local pet photo greeting cards, reflective paw print stickers, pet bandanas, and other items, PAWS raises money.  Our newest fund-raising endeavor is PAWS PLACE, a resale/thrift store
  • Donations, memorials, and honorariums are appreciated anytime.
  • The spay/neuter services that PAWS provides are also made possible by the following funds and grants:

        2009 Grant Awards

  • $9,400 grant from the Aid to Helpless Animals Trust of the San Antonio Area Foundation, May, 2009, for Cats in Crisis IV.

  • $5000 grant from the Georgia B. Lucas Fund of the Austin Community Foundation, February 2008
